Skates-1986.tif
Self portrait originally shot in black and white of my feet in skates, on Alta Lake with Blackcomb Mountain behind. Early in my career with the Whistler Question Newspaper I was assigned to photograph skating on Alta Lake. It was a gorgeous and clear day, but there was no one out skating. This is well before the tourists really discovered the resort, and so after skating around for an hour or so I decided I had better be my own model. Using a manual Rollei camera, I set the focus and choose a small aperture, took a deep breath and bent over, balancing on the tips of my skates. It was only in the darkroom hours later that I knew I had a cover shot. Thirty years later it's still one of my favorite images.
