Jon Montgomery shares his gold medal win in the mens' skeleton with Tsimshian artist Philip Gray at the Black Tusk Gallery in Whistler during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Montgomery commissioned Gray to paint his animal totem, the Thunderbird, on his helmet. In local first nations culture the Black Tusk is considered the nest of the Thunderbird, and so was Montgomery's choice in locating an artist to create his helmet design.
